How to recruit affiliates: a practical workflow
Define a useful offer, research publishers who reach the intended buyers, check their methods and send relevant invitations. Follow through with approval, activation and a review of valid business results.
1. Make the program ready to promote
Confirm the product, availability, supported regions, commission basis, attribution rules and approval process. Give prospects a clear program page and a real point of contact. Recruitment will struggle when partners cannot understand the offer or when the customer journey is broken.
2. Choose the gap you want to fill
Look at your current partner mix. Do you need product education, comparisons, regional reach or another specific placement? Describe the audience and task. Separate niche, partner type and network relationship rather than treating them as interchangeable filters.
Use the ecommerce guide, the B2B and SaaS guide or the home and garden guide to make the brief concrete.
3. Build a shortlist you can defend
Record the prospect URL, recent relevant content, audience evidence, promotion method, contact source, program fit and unanswered questions. AffiliateFinders can help with discovery and available contact information. Review the actual publisher and the contact evidence before reaching out. A listing is a research lead, not a recommendation to approve.
4. Vet the prospect
Check content quality, current activity, promotion methods, geographic fit, permitted claims and commercial conflicts. vet affiliate applicants before approving them. Confirm any network relationship you plan to rely on, and do not infer present membership from a name alone.
5. Send a relevant invitation
Reference a real piece of content and explain the fit. Include the program link, eligibility, commission terms and one clear next step. Ask whether the arrangement is interesting before sending a large package. Keep any sponsorship, sample or production agreement explicit and separate from affiliate terms.
6. Follow up and record the response
Use a shared worksheet to prevent duplicate contact. If you follow up, add useful information rather than repeating the same generic pitch. Honor opt-outs and use a legitimate business contact. Do not turn a public listing into permission for unrestricted campaigns.
7. Help approved partners publish
Provide working links, accurate product information, current creative assets and approved claims. Ask what they need for the first relevant placement and resolve practical issues such as samples, timing or technical documentation. Approval without activation has limited value.
8. Review business results
Keep each stage distinct: shortlist, invitation, reply, approval, first placement and valid order or qualified lead. Check cancellations, refunds, duplicate leads, existing customers and commission economics. Use the review to improve fit and the offer. No discovery tool guarantees that partners will join or produce results.
